How to read this matrix

Three honest framings for a buyer landing here:

  • checkIf you sort by "Peer-reviewed evidence": The strong-evidence vendors (Abridge, Nabla, Dragon Copilot) cluster at the top. The published-RCT story for Dragon Copilot is unfavorable (−1.7%, not significant) and worth weighting accordingly in the comparison.
  • checkIf you sort by "Pricing transparency": Only Freed and Heidi Health publish list pricing. Every other vendor requires a sales conversation. The transparency itself is a buyer-relevant signal — it tends to correlate with self-serve adoption motion.
  • checkIf you sort by "Residency posture": Every cloud vendor is "verify region contractually" for Canadian use. The on-prem alternative is the only entry that satisfies provincial residency without contractual gymnastics — and that is exactly the buyer segment WalledCare exists to serve.

Four buyer archetypes and which vendor each should shortlist first

ARCHETYPE 01
Epic-first U.S. health system

Shortlist: Abridge first (deepest Epic integration, strongest published evidence). Compare against Dragon Copilot (existing Microsoft contract leverage) and Nabla (peer-reviewed time-saved). Hospital-owned alternative on the residency angle.

ARCHETYPE 02
Canadian hospital with provincial residency rules

Shortlist: The on-prem path first. Among cloud options, Nabla and Heidi (multi-region cloud, data-minimal defaults). Verify Azure / AWS Canadian-region commitments contractually before any cloud signature.

ARCHETYPE 03
Ambulatory clinic or small group, U.S. or AU/NZ

Shortlist: Freed (U.S. published pricing) or Heidi (AU/NZ dominant, published pricing). Skip the enterprise vendors at this size. Self-serve plus BAA is the right shape.

ARCHETYPE 04
Enterprise wanting bundled scribe + RCM + coding

Shortlist: Commure Ambient (HCA Healthcare reference) or Dragon Copilot (Microsoft ecosystem bundle). Compare against running Abridge + a separate coding stack to test the bundle thesis.

What this matrix deliberately does not show

Pricing dollars (because vendors will not commit them publicly), specific clinical-safety rates (because they vary by deployment configuration and the published framework is the better reference), and uptime SLAs (which are negotiated). For those, go deeper:
